Smito Solutions makes Cyto. This page says what Cyto collects, why, where it goes, and what you can ask us to do about it.

It describes Cyto only. Matrix and Smito One are separate products and say their own.

What Cyto collects

Your email address, because it is how you sign in. There is no password — we email you a code each time.

Where you are, while a ride is recording. Cyto reads your phone's precise location about once a second during a ride, and its barometric pressure sensor, which is what it uses to work out climb. It asks Android for location only while a ride is running, and shows a notification for the whole time one is. Cyto does not request Android's background location permission, so it cannot read where you are when you are not recording.

The ride. The route you took, distance, climb, moving and elapsed time, when it started and in which timezone, the kind of activity, and any name you give it.

What recorded it — for example Cyto Android 1.0.0 — so a figure can be read against the thing that produced it.

Cyto has no analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers. We do not sell your data, share it for marketing, or build a profile of you.

Where it goes

Your rides are stored on our servers, hosted in India. A ride's recorded track is held as a file in our own cloud storage; everything else sits in our database.

Two outside parties are involved, both acting on our instructions and for nothing else:

  • Our cloud hosting provider, which runs the servers and storage.
  • An email delivery provider, which sends your sign-in code. It sees your email address and the code, and nothing about your rides.

Nobody else receives your data. We disclose it outside this list only where the law requires it of us.

What other people can see

Nothing. Every ride is private. Another Cyto rider cannot see your rides, and there is no public profile, no feed and no leaderboard. There is no setting that makes a ride visible to anyone, because there is nothing for it to be visible on.

Cyto has a Private mark you can put on a ride. Today it does nothing but appear on your own ride, as a note to yourself — it is not what keeps the ride private, since every ride already is.

We intend to let you send rides elsewhere one day, to Smito One or to another service you already use. That will be something you switch on for yourself, per destination, and nothing will leave Cyto before you do. When it arrives we will say here what the Private mark means for it, rather than deciding quietly — it is worth knowing that on some other services a ride marked private is still sent to an app you connected, and we would rather state our answer than let you assume ours matches theirs.

How long we keep it

Rides are kept until you delete them or ask us to close your account, because a training record is only useful over time. Sign-in codes are short-lived and are discarded once used or expired.

What you can ask for

You can ask us for a copy of your data, for a correction, or for your account and its rides to be deleted. Write to support@smito.in from the address your account uses and we will act on it.

Deleting your account removes your rides and their recorded tracks. It cannot be undone, so we will confirm with you before doing it.

Cyto is not meant for children, and we do not knowingly keep an account for anyone under 18.

Changes

If we change what Cyto collects, this page changes with it and the date above moves. We will not quietly start collecting something this page does not mention.
